So if you recall my Fall Challenge goals I set back at the beginning of September were to be at 166lbs, be signed up for a 5k, and fit into my super-skinny skinny jeans.
I completed my 5k last weekend in a little under 39 minutes and am signed up for another 1 in just a couple of weeks! So proud of myself for following through on this goal.
The jeans fit, but they still don’t look so hot, but now that I look back on it I don’t know if they ever did. I think the rise is just too damn low on them. Oh well still progress.
Last time I weighed I was 169. I think that is pretty damn awesome. I ended up losing about 9 lbs since I started the fall challenge, but learned so much more along the way.
Since I started running (at the beginning of this challenge) I have felt amazing. I no longer have to drag myself to the gym or dread feeling like I’m getting nowhere. Running has transformed my body. I feel like everything is more toned and I feel more confident than ever. I’m even fitting into a smaller size top! The most important thing running has given me is freedom from the scale. I no longer feel like I need to obsessively weigh myself or even pay attention to the number on the scale. I can see and feel the changes in my body and don’t rely on a number to set my mood for the day.
I’ve made an amazing friend through my running and tennis who I get together with 3-4 times a week to hit a few balls and run a few miles. It gives us both a chance to vent about our lives, but also to re-center us. I don’t dread those workouts at all, they give me such peace. A lot has changed in the past month and a lot will change in the next one. I’m turning 20 and am hoping to complete 2 more 5k’s. So with that said I’d like to introduce the Fall B Challenge.

My friend, Jon, and I after the 5k this morning.
So about that-
There were only like 30 people there, which is incredibly small. I ran with my friend, Dana, from the running group. I woke up to the weather being “record high and humidity”. So even though it was a pleasant 75 degrees out, it was also 97% humidity. I really felt like the run was a tough one today, sometimes you have days where it’s a breeze and others where it’s torture. I was up late last night doing homework, so I was running on about 3 hours of sleep.
So even with humidity and sleep deprivation, Dana and I finished in a little under 39 minutes. I didn’t look at the time immediately, because I was too busy feeling like I was going to puke (didn’t drink enough to make up for the sweat loss from humidity). My only goals were to finish in under 40 minutes and to not come in last. Dana and I finished mid-pack with about 12 runnners/walkers behind us. I’m a little disappointed in my time, but I really have to look at the big picture. I accomplished everything I wanted to and at the beginning of the fall challenge, I never would’ve pictured myself here.
My 5k is this weekend and I’m already starting to get nervous. I think I’m just ready to get it over with and know my time. I’ve been staying off the scale this week, so that my final weigh in will be a surprise. I’m just shooting for the 160’s. I went shopping this weekend and discovered I can now wear a size medium top. Since I have a large chest to begin with, this is quite the accomplishment. Ultimately I know the fall challenge has changed my body in great ways. Taking up running has made me more confident, toned and motivated!
